WTCC News: RML return triumphant from Macau
As the teams return from the World Touring Car’s finale in Macau, RML brought with them the Manufacturers and Drivers World title, courtesy of Yvan Muller. The titles were RML Chevrolet’s before the weekend’s races, but it was in Macau that Muller and Rob Huff had to fight for the all important drivers crown which in the end came down to 3 points.
A fantastic performance by Huff over the weekend saw him take pole position, two race wins and a fastest lap. We told you he has made that tarmac his own! It was a nail biter to the end with Muller moving up a place in race two, closer to the leading Brit’s car, that closed the gap marginally enough for him to take the title at the chequered flag. An unfortunate weekend for Alain Menu saw him keep his third place in the 2011 driver’s championship but an incident in race one meant race two was a non starter where he watched form the sidelines.
The weekend for Bamboo Engineering was with mixed fortunes. Yukinori Taniguchi was unable to compete in the famous Macau event due to the damage sustained in the penultimate Shanghai race. His team mate and local driver O’Young put in a strong qualifying performance in his Chevrolet and he started race one on the second row behind the RML Cruze’s. It was looking promising until an incident in race one ended his run. A start from the pit lane in race two saw him take the chequered flag in 12th position and 6th overall in the Yokohama Driver’s Trophy.
So that’s another year over for the WTCC, but no rest for Fiona as the 2012 season planning is well underway!
